1010i are lively speakers.missions are lively but can also grate your ears.what kind of sound would you like with movies?warm or piercing?

the 1010i are ok for normal listening levels.I guess wth the missiions you would soon get tired of them.

only if you could hear the floorstanders, and if you like them for stereo use, them I'd get the missions over the q acoustics.

warm sounds better than piercing , although i dont fully appreciate what a warm sound is , i have googled the term , but i guess listening is the only real way to get a feel for whats what , i can and will demo the missions , but not the q accoustics , they are internet only for me . i do prefer the look of the missions , they look more substantial , and would fit better with my lounge , and yes for 2 channel music they may be good ..

at this point i think the best thing i can do is get a decent amp , it will be the yamaha rxv765 id say .. and ill probably get the missions , im sure they will do for a while , being my first set ill probably be happy , and i can sell em in the future , when ill have a better idea of what i like , and the time and money to demo some nice gear...

I currently have the Mission m33i package and I cannot speak more highly of them, I have had them for a couple of years now and it did take a couple of months for them to settle in to my system but as I said before I am very pleased with them. I am using a Cambridge Audio Azur 340r with them which is a very musical amp and they sound superb when you play live music through them (especially Jools Holland on BBCHD).

One thing I was looking at was getting a sub as this package didn't come with one but I really can't make my mind up as I am getting great Bass in music and the effects in the movies I watch I am more than happy with the sound I am getting.

I think I'm correct in saying that some ex employees from Mission are involved in Q Acoustics, so i imagine you will find the sound of this Mission package to be similar to the Q Acoustic's.

That said, the Missions give you a chance of adding a sub later on, and the floorstanders would be a better choice if you listen to stereo music too (And they are better for movies too, as I upgraded my 1010i's fronts to the 1030i's floorstanders, which have a very similar spec to the Mission M33i's - hmmmm, wonder why??)

Hope that helps a bit...............

maxflinn, I would say matched with my Cambridge they would sound quite warm rather than bright but I guess it depends what amp you have with them, though they certainly don't sound "piercing".

I hope this helps with you decision.

thanks pete and mikey , my mind is made up now , the m34i fronts it is , the rest to follow , its interesting to hear that you dont find them bright mikey , although i guess them being paired with the cambridge amp defo helps there , im going to demo with a denon 1910 , yamaha rxv765 and onkyo 607 , looking forward to next week now

If I did add a sub to my missions which would you recommend, I know there are a lot of threads about subs on hear but it would be interesting to hear your opinion I have about £200 to spend on one and also would it dramatically improve my performance?

Not really asking you...I was just wondering as somebody said the m33i package is without a sub and I was wondering if I got one it would make a difference?

But thanks for your reply.

For the money, the 10.5's are a good speaker plus they are alot of spec for the price being a 3-way.

They'd suit a medium to smaller room as fronts, but would struggle in a larger room.

Where did they give them 3 stars? Have you a link to that.

the poor review was right here , i wonder though , at e380 which is £336 .. would they have got another star ??

there are other , more favourable reviews out there though ...

I'd say they'd definitely be better than the Missions if you can get the 10.5's for 380 euro. The Wharfedales are bound to have some shortcomings considering the spec they have at the price, but will the shortcoming affect your listening taste? Is the priority music or movies? , what genre of music etc...

I'm sure they'd be excellent with movies in a 5.1 setup.

To be honest, I wouldn't see a review as the be all and end all of my decision making. One mans poison is another mans nectar so to speak, and as you said, there are other more favourable reviews out there, so what exactly do you go with?

Personally, I'd trust my own ears first, and secondly the opinion of individual owners. No disrespect at all intended to whathifi's review intended ofcourse.
