Don't get it! switched off sky. bought samsung lcd with freeview. been looking for a decent pvr to go with tv. now not sure whether to hold out for freesat. but then what happens to freeview. is it worth all the extra expense. only a couple of channels are hd from what i understand. things change too quick.

how long before freeview becomes old news- or has that already happened. is this the bluray / hd scenario again.

all i can say is technology is moving quicker than i am!

shall i stick with freeview or move up to freesat?

Up to you sir. If you have an HD-ready TV, and you want to take advantage of the freesat HD content, then I would say that it is the way to go.

Freesat HD PVRs look to be coming to the market in Oct-Nov at the moment, so it might be worth waiting until then if you want the PVR/HD functionality and just use the freeview built into the TV for now. It is worth noting that you need two leads from the dish to the box for PVR functionality - if you previously had sky+ then they will already be there. If you only had standard sky digital then you will need to upgrade the LNB on the dish and run an additional cable.

Freeview HD won't be around for the forseeable future (at least 3-5 years depending on when your region goes all-digital), and you will definitely need a separate set-top-box to recieve it.

Freeview PVRs are available now, but don't have HD capabilities, and won't be able to recieve HD if and when it comes available.

So, my suggestion is if you want HD, wait for freesat PVR, if not, go Freeview.

kind regards fbsf. it's more food for thought. the problem is i need PVR now. somehow i need to fulfill the desires of my young family. they want eastenders and citv recorded. that said, i think i've answered my own problem. it comes down to sacrifice. family now-hd later. hd will have to wait, unfortunately.
