Hey

I have a Pioneer VSX 819 and the 80gb version just before the slim camr out, so its only like a year and a half old.

Anyway, how do I know I am getting the HD audio and all is running the way it should?

I have updated all the firmware.

Is this just automatic that it just does HD audio, or Have I got to make sure a certain setting is in the right place.

Thanks

Easiest way to tell is to press Select when you're watching a movie - in the top right hand corner of the screen it will tell you what the PS3 is currently outputting.

If it's set to bitstream, you won't be getting HD audio sound with compatible Blu-Rays. Instead it needs to be set to Linear PCM (this is in the BD / DVD Audio Output Format (HDMI) setting under Video Settings). Your amp should then indicate "Multichannel" or something similar to show it's receiving the decoded PCM track.

You can also change the audio output setting from bitstream to LPCM of vice versa by pressing triangle and then select AV Settings from the pop up menu. Just a quick shortcut I have found ;-)
