Got a home network (wired) with an attached PC (XP SP3), and a WDTVLive, all works fine via SMC router, I can see the router and the WDTV in network places including the HDD I have hanging off it. I can also see my son's PC (W7).

I have a PS3 slim that I have now connected to the network via cable. It can access the internet and the playstation network without problem but I'm at a loss as to why I can't get it to see my PC via WMP11 or Twonky Media server. I cannot see it in the network places either.

I have tried both setting it a fixed IP address and leaving everything in automatic to no avail.

I cannot find an answer that fits my particular issue on the net. What am I missing... I only want to play mp3 files off of my PC.

Have u turned on media streaming in wmp11 and enabled access for the ps3?

http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-xp/help/windows-media-player/11/share-media

I cant remember whether u have the share the music folder or not in xp sp3 as well. Im guessing not.

The ps3 will not show up in network places, but will be able to see the media servers on ur pc or nas.

Yes, media sharing is enabled, I can play music from my WMP library on the WDTVLive. It's the PS3 that's the issue. It cannot see my PC and my PC cannot see it although it works fine on the internet.

I cannot enable the PS3 in WMP11, Twonky Media Server or the Playstation Server software because it isn't detected and doesn't show up on my network.

You have to enable access specifically for the ps3 - It should show as an unknown device.
