PS3 and Dolby Digital

Hi

I have my PS3 linked to my SONY DAVIS-10 system via an optical lead. I appreciate my sony system cannot reproduce HD surround sound and only can output Doby 5.1

When I play a blu ray that has Dolby True HD, I hear the sound via all my speakers (assume its just normal dolby 5.1), but when I play a disc with DTS-HD, I only receive sound from the 2 side speakers next to my TV

I received the Bourne trilogy at Christmas and was playing around with it last night so I could a least here it in Dolby 5.1. There is no option on the blu ray disc to choose dolby 5.1 so I'm not sure how I can receive it

You need to change the Audio option. It doesn't state it clearly, it'll be Audio Option 1 or 2.

Something is wrong here as the Sony DAV-IS10 can decode both Dolby Digital and DTS. Go to Settings > Audio Output Settings and select Digital Out (Optical). In the list that's presented, make sure that both Dolby Digital 5.1 Ch and DTS 5.1 Ch are ticked (just leave the Linear PCM settings as they are by default) and then try to play a DTS soundtrack. So long as the film has a DTS 5.1 soundtrack, you should be getting surround, even on a DTS HD Master Audio track as, when you're sending via optical, the PS3 will automatically pick out the core DTS track and bitstream this so it should work just fine.

Do you need an optical for the PS3? as well as HDMI?

I cant get surround for BBC-iplayer, so would an optical sort this.

No if you have an HDMI input on your amp, you only need this. In this case, the Sony DAV-IS10 doesn't have an HDMI input, hence why an optical is being used.

I seriously doubt BBC iPlayer has surround sound given it's being streamed over the internet so it would just be in stereo.
