I have been using this player for 1 1/2 years now. Although I have been facing these issues for sometime now, but I gave the player the benefit of the doubt before this. BUt now it has become really annoying and I would like to know am I the only one facing these issues:

1. It takes forever to load a disc. Starting from putting the disc in the tray untl I reach the menu takes about 5 to 10 minutes.

2. The loading meter overlays the screen during the 'coming to DVD/blu ray' movie gazzettes.

3. And this is the ultimate. I just bought the Mirror blu ray (Kiefer Sutherland) yesterday and after I have reached the menu and I click play, it just hangs. No matter which button I press, it just will not continue to play the movie. Come to one stage, the player just reboots itself and have to go through another 10 minutes until I get to the menu again. Tried to go through the scene selection and chose other chapter to start the movie but again, it just hangs and shows blank screen. Tried out with my other discs, no issues except items 1 and 2 above still persists. So today I went to the shop and swapped with another Mirror blu ray disc again, but I still face the same issue with this disc.

Its getting really annoying now and start to feel that this player is more junk than the hype being put in the reviews.

1. Do other owners face the same issues? Is there a way around these issues?

2. Does the PS3 have the same issues?

3. With the current new players, which one offers the least time to load and has minimal issues with various discs?

Hi there,i have the same model and it does take a while to load the discs ,my ps3 is a lot quicker loading but i would say the sound and picture quality is better on bdp 1se,what i would suggest is have you got the latest software loaded on to it as i have just downloaded it to a disc and updated it and it seems to run a bit smoother it i think its version 4.90 now,go in to settings and see if you can find it,if you cant il try and talk you through it,you need to check to see what version software level yours has,i bought mine two weeks ago and it was ex stock but brand new,but is had version 3.50 so had to update it,i can copy you my disc and post it to you if need be,do you have yours connected up via the 6 channel cables to get the hd auio dts sound and true hd,as i think incorrect in saying you need to do this with the onboard decoder to get these sounds, have you heard that?

Thanks moomin for the reply. Shoot. Mine is still Version 2.0 !!!!. Thanks for the offer for the disc copy. But I am residing in Malaysia. It will be a hassle for you to post internationally. However, I am currently downloading the 4.9 version from the Sony website. Its a big file, so I am just waiting fro the download to complete. The problem is to find a CD-R burner. My laptop has a DVD burner but not CDR. Or can a DVD burner still burn CDR?

I think you only need to use the 6 channel cable if you want to use the onboard decoder and when your AV receiver cannot decode HD Audio DTS and True HD. You then just connect the 6 cables into your 6 channle input in your receiver.

To be frank I have yet to experience the full 7.1 HD audiod as my current receiver cannot decode TrueHD etc. I am still connecting my BDP via a coaxial digial cable, so just enjoying the Dolby Digital sound only.

Voila moomin. The firmware 4.9 upgrade did the trick. It just took me 15 minutes to do the upgrade. Tried out The Mirror disc. Not only the loading is faster but also I dont need to choose a chapter to kick off the movie. Just press play and the movie starts.

I am surprised that Sony did not make it a point to contact the owners of this player to perform the upgrade. Or am I the only one that missed out?

Anyway, thanks a lot moomin for the advice.
