Problem with Sonos since recent update

Since the last Sonos update I keep encountering problems when adding media to the queue. I get the message 'unable to add media to queue', this is from both my NAS & music on my phone. I haven't had a problem listening to the radio, just adding media. I get the same message whether adding, replacing or trying to play now, if you keep persisting it eventually plays and adds the music to the queue but it is becoming a pain in the arse. It happens on both my Play:3 and Play:5 not sure about the connect as I haven't used it recently. Anyone else had this problem ?

Your problem is almost certainly an IP address clash and is not a direct consequence of the update but rather a consequence of rebooting all the Sonos devices (which the update does, obviously).

Shut down your entire network (everything, non-Sonos devices as well, including phones and tablets etc), then restart the router, give it a couple of minutes to fully start up, then start your NAS (again, give each device a minute or so to fully start), then start your wired Sonos devices, then your unwired Sonos devices, then you can start anything else attached to the network.

This should flush out any duplicated IP addresses. You should consider fixing the IP addresses used by your devices (particularly the NAS and the Sonos devices) in the router's DHCP settings, this should prevent this sort of thing from happening again.

Well it's not a problem with the update, if it was there would be dozens of people on the Sonos forum complaining about it and you're the first I've seen. Have you changed anything else on the network recently? Are you using different wireless channels for Sonos and your home network (or are you using the new direct to wi-fi method for Sonos)?

I already have fixed IP addresses for everything which connects to my router.

Are you sure - what about visitors with smartphones, friends with tablets. They might not be connected right now but they will have been allocated an IP address at some point.

If you have an Android phone then you could use an app called 'Fing' to show you all the devices that are around. I've got over 20 in my house!

I'll log onto the router later and check the IP allocations, then do a complete reboot to see if that sorts it out then. In answer to your question, I haven't changed anything recently.

I've found everthing a little more "flakey" since the new look certainly slower to respond, like changing tracks and the volume lags. I find it less intuitive to use also with little extra functionality

I agree, it hasn't grown on me, I was holding off updating my iPad but the last update forced it through. The app is crap on the iPad, one third of the screen is now empty real estate. Sonos don't seem to be alone in putting out rubbish apps and websites though, Have you tried using the most recent eBay app on your phohe, rubbish, this website on your phone, rubbish, Sonos app, rubbish.

Anyway I couldn't see any problems when logging onto the router, all looked well. Still I rebooted the whole lot as The_Lhc suggested above, I'll use it over the next few days to see if that's sorted it out.

It would do, IP address clashes happen because the router hasn't kept track of what's using which IP address, so the router won't know there's a problem, that's kind of the problem...

Again, this is usually indicative of an underlying network issue, I've not had any performance issues with the last couple of upgrades. Try the advice I gave earlier or check your wireless channel assignments on the router and Sonos.

Well the reboot of the network didn't solve the problem, tried it last night and couldn't add any music to the queue, I could only stream the radio. I changed the channel for the Sonos, didn't make any difference either. The only thing which got it working was when I rebooted my PLAY:5 which incidentally is not the hardwired one.

Not sure what else to try.

Try the Sonos forum or contact support.

So I've been on the Sonos forum and had my diagnostics read a couple of times. They said change the ethernet cable, change the channels on the router and turn off auto channel selection, reboot the system and clear the wifi settings from my phone. I have also deleated the app an reinstalled and it still doesn't work correctly. I can stream from my NAS or internet radio no problem but if I have an empty queue and try to add media from my phone, it doesn't work - 'unable to add media to queue'. However if I add a track from my NAS first into the queue, then add something from my phone it starts to work OK. I go back to my original threory, there is a bug in the latest update. There seems to be more threads appearing relating to the same problem with variouss phones too.
