Hi there i have a KEF 2005.2 speaker system and the other day my SUB started to make a very loud & deep humming noise so i had to turn it off. Every time i turn it back on the noise starts so i basically have to have my Sub continually switched off.

Does anyone have any idea why it started making this noise? have i switched something on or off by accident or could it be a fault?

No, you've not done anything wrong. It sounds like a problem with the sub amp.

Give KEF a call on 01622 672261 and have a chat with the service dept, they'll let you know what to do from there.

Hope it all works out ok for you

Just spoke to them and its gonna be not far off £150 to repair!

Should i repair the item or buy a new sub? if a new sub can anyone reccommend what i should be looking for to go with my KEF 2005.2 speakers.

My option are:-

1. Send sub back to KEF to repair for £150

2. Buy a new seperate sub

3. Sell my Kef 2005.2 eggs on ebay for around £50 per egg and use the money to buy the Q Acoustics 2000 system

Any advice?

Any advice? KEF are offering a £100 trade in on any old sub against their HTB2SE subwoofer at the moment - might be worth considering depending what sub you were thining of. Are your 2005's black or silver?

Always good to have the experts around with info like this...I'd still personally go for Option 3, albeit at a higher investment but the sonic returns would more than justify the outlay (IMO).

Mine did the same. Faced with same choices as you, so I thought nothing to loose, and just thumped it.(made me feel better as well) The sub has been fine ever since!

If the HTB2SE is the sub from the KEF 3005SE I definitely wouldn't get it if you use the speakers for music as it was dire when I demod it.

Made a decent noise for films though.
