I'm trying to link my old personal cassette player to my amp with a 3.5mm stereo jack to RCA cable. Unfortunately, sound is only coming out of the left speaker. Both speakers work fine with other components and the cassette player plays fine through headphones. I've tried two different phono to RCA cables with the same result. I've not tried the cables with any other equipment yet but both are new and I'm assuming they are in working order. Any ideas what might be going wrong here?

Make sure the 3.5mm jack is properly seated and pushed fully home. Waggle and twist it to see if channel appears.

Purely out of morbid curiosity I am curious as to why you would still want to do this.

Heh heh! I knew someone would ask that FirstAid. I did feel somewhat self conscious asking such a question on a forum dedicated to audiophiles and technophiles of the finest pedigree. It's like walking into the Ritz wearing old jogging bottoms and a frayed T-shirt.

I found a box of old tapes that I wanted to listen to and being short of space, I bought an old Realistic Minisette from eBay to plug into the back of my amp. Perhaps I'm just sentimental and overly fond of antiquated equipment but it sounds good through decent headphones, especially for a cassette machine.

Thanks CnoEvil, I made sure I pushed the jack in as far as possible and waggled it around but still no luck.
