Price difference justified?

Hello, I'm deciding on my next A/V receiver. I was waiting for the Sony STR-DA5500ES to hit the streets, with an expected retail price of
€2,000. At the same time, the oldest model STR-DA5400ES is currently on sale for almost half that amount (€1,100).

I know that there are no reviews of the new model yet but can it be that much better than the older model in order to justify the difference in the price tag? If i don't care about the new features such as DLNA and ethernet connectivity, isn't it safe to assume that the changes in the core technologies of A/V Receivers haven't evolved by 100% in a single year to justify such a difference in the price?

Interesting pricing you have. I see that outgoing 5400 at around £1300 and the new 5500 at the same price. The 6400 ( that is also finished ) was £100 more.

The 5500 is the same as the 6400 but without the ability to act as a server ( it is now just a network client) and it sounds like you do not need those facilities.
