Hi,

What power amp do you recommand for rhe proac response d2. Budget around 1000sterlings. Music I listen to is 80% jazz.

Preamp : Rotel RSP1069

Thanks

Id suggest a used Krell Kav300i, 300iL or 400xi(£700-1200).

These are all intergrated amps but have a function for Av use where you can just use its power amp section like a regular power amp for your front left and right speakers.

Then for purely music, you can have your cd player hooked upto the Krell and achieve a much better stereo sound as opposed to using a surround processor for the job.

Thanks Matt, but isnt a seperate power amp and an av/preamp better than an integrated? Rotel`s preamp is very neutral, I think a power amp connected to it is a better option. What do others think?

I think what your going find for responses is a mixed bag. Some say that the power amp is the last link in your chain therefore the least important while others preach amp first, its the same for source VS amp first. A good integrated might be a option if the signal your getting could be better from your source then why spend more on a power amp.

I would like the see the home team jump in on this one though as your preamp section in your AV amp might be good, collect some ideas from there

I would think that the Krell's pre amp would better all but the most expensive Av pre/processors but i could be wrong.

Some say that a well designed intergrated will beat any pre power combo due to its simplicity and lack of interconnecting cables.

I believe the Krell FBI intergrated, fed via cast cables from a krell cd source is pretty much as good as it gets. Expensive though.

See what others have to say as i dont know anything about Av really.

Thanks for your answers .. hope others reply

Mike_Schmidt:daspaceman post this question to the WHF team. I would LOL

Yes, you`re right... they are the experts! Thanks for keeping this post alive

Good though the Rotel processor is, I think it would be the limiting factor for stereo playback, however much you spend on a power amp. You don't say what the source is for your music, but assuming it's a high-quality stereo source, I'd follow the advice given above regarding an integrated amp for stereo duties.

Thanks... Lets start saving for a good integrated amp with HT bypass then. Any good intgrated matching the Proacs?

The source is a new sony dvd, connected optically to the Rotel`s DAC. I`m buying an apple tv soon. Will it be a good source?

Thanks
