If you don't want to spend to much than log on to ebay and buy a Cmoy amp, excellent piece of kit, also there is the Fii0 E5, I have both, the Cmoy uses a 9volt battery and the Fii0 E5 charges using an usb cable. I use both with my Grado 60 and Alessandro MS1 headphones both amps producing excellent results, the Cmoy can go much louder than the other but both will meet your requirments.

Hello, thanks for your reply. What would you say the difference is between the two as at this point I'm not sure which one to go for ? I have looked on e-bay and found a few types of c moy amplifiers manufactured at a few different places including a chap from America who says He has improved on the Amp. Do you think there would be much difference between them? Thanks again.

I'm new to this amp business too, should be receiving a Fiio E5 next week (cross fingers), going to try it with my Sansa Fuze and Shure SE210s for starters. The clip on the E5 looks pretty handy, as I should be able to just attach it to my shirt (good weather permitting) or coat, that should help with microphonics and the weight of the cable.

Anyway, what phones are you using Mr.P? I gather that the better amps, like the Ray Samuels, are good at eliminating the hiss of some sensitive IEMs and helping with sound-staging rather than just making things louder, although in the case of the Fuze that would be a benefit!

The one you want is this one, Portable Headphone Amplifier CMOY amp Headamp it comes from Latvia, cost £39.00 plus £9.95 p&p. As I said it can go much louder than the Fiio E5, again either would suit you but given a choice go for the CMOY as you don't need a computer to charge it, just a 9volt battery, hope this helps.

50 GBP is a lot for a CMOY; you could build one for around 30 GBP.. (PJPro and I did).

Hello ,the earphones I'm using at the moment are the ones that came with my Sony mp3 player, I understand that I can improve on these but where do I start?

If you intend to listen to your music, where you don't want anybody to hear it, then a pair of closed headphones(any Sennheisers will do the trick)or a pair of earphones(Shure or equivalent will surfice)but if you want to listen where you will not disturd anyone, then a pair of Grado 60 or AlessandroMS1 will fit the bill, but in the end let your ears decide for you.

From reading what members think I feel that the Sen's are highly recommended but as I said if possible let your ears be your guide, glad to read that you have a pair of Alessandros.

It's going to depend on your tastes Mr.P - Both companies' phones have a different house sound - Sennheisers are generally dark in tone, the CX300's in particular I found to be quite bassy making them good for dance, rock, hip-hop and stuff like that. I haven't heard the SE110's but I own the 210's and 530's , they both share the same basic house sound - good midrange, slightly rolled and smooth treble and a clean if not very extended bass - the 530's of course improve on the 210's sound but basically the Shures are great for Jazz, Classical and acoustic music, basically anything that doesn't need tons of bass.

I've mentioned this before, I really hate the J-cord on the CX300's, I found it constantly pulling on my left ear and also microphonics are a bit of a problem too. The Shure's cable is a bit better in that it's a Y-cord so it pulls evenly on both ears, though it is a bit heavier and stiffer than the Sennheiser's, putting the cable over your ears helps reduce microphonics significantly.

Hope that this is of some help to you.
