im thinking of purchasing a dvd recorder its the sony RDR-HXD870S,not really savvy on this stuff is it worth purchasing or not???

Haven't tested the '870, but the '970 is our DVD recorder Product of the Year- they appear to essentially be the same machine with different-sized hard drives (160GB and 250GB respectively).

Both Sony and Panasonic are excellent bets when it comes to DVD recorders - we haven't seen a bad one yet from either brand.
