plazma transportation

I've decided to go for a panasonic 42pz80b plazma tv and to save £30 pounds will collect it myself. but i read somwere you cant lay them down, is this true?? I wowld then have to unbox it put it upright ih the back seats then put the box int the back... To much hastle for £30 ......

yes its true.........what car are you collecting it in as i could fit my 37in pana plasma upright on the back seats still in the box, this was in a mondeo but someone else did fit one in a golf. i guess you would need a bigger car though....i would be tempted to pay the 30 notes

I managed to get my 42px80, box and all into the back of my mk3 Mondeo, across the back seats.... it was a little complicated, so I won't explain unless you have a mondeo

allough i do have the choice of mitsi evo, rover 45 or dawoo estate ??? i wonder which is widest internally? Time for a tape measure me thinks

I'm getting the same tv, but have an Escort hatchback - do you think it will fit in? How high and how long was the box with the tv?

Pay the extra for a propper delivery, that way if it were to get damaged in transit you would be covered for a replacement.

I bought from a store and they insisted plasma's can be placed face down, I was a little sceptical but...

The panasonic box has a series of blue arrows and instructions on it indicating which way it should lie if placed flat - so I think they'd know.

Mine's working perfectly since I set it up and I had to transport it 30 miles in a fiesta...

[/quote] odd as mine had clear instructions on box and in actual instruction book (which i downloaded in advance) that the screen should be transported up right........which make/model did you buy?

DO NOT TRANSPORT PLASMAS LYING DOWN!!! ALWAYS UPRIGHT!! Now I have that off my chest... to the poster asking about the Escort hatchback... sorry, but I don't really want to go up in the attic to have a look. Width of the box is not too much of an issue... it's the height and getting the box through the door. I got around this by lifting up the rear seat and having the front seats all the way forward. It was a really, really tight fit with the mondeo and I felt kind of foolish when I arrived at John Lewis thinking it would fit in without any issues.

Just to make this perfectly clear.... most manufacturers, including Panasonic, design their plasma packaging to support the telly in it's upright position. The same goes for the actual telly. If you lie it flat, espicially during transportation, you expose the screen to stresses that it is not designed to withstand.

1 happy shopper here ,i took my brothers daewoo,it went in the back seats(with the windows open) and richer sounds priced mached,only £815.Also got a bd30 bluray from panasonic in sutton £290(another hard haggle) but have just watched I am legend and am well happy,when my wall mount arives i will inegrate with the sound

Hi - my friend collected her Plasma TV from Comet and laid it flat down in the boot as advised by the sales person. Will they have done any harm to the TV, or is it a case of the screen more likely to be damaged if it is laid flat.

If they have got it home in one piece and its fine nothing to worry about but if the manual says transport upright (mine does) don't risk it any other way. As mentioned before it can stress the screen which could crack so not worth the risk.

I transported my 37PV500B face down cushioned on an old quilt.
Blissfully unaware that this could potentially cause damage?

However the tv came through the process unscathed and fully operational

So is the issue something to do with the plasma itself or just the stress an strain placed on the tv while in the horitonal position?

More quality advice from those highly train sales staff at Comet who apparantly know more than the like of Panasonic who clearly state on all their Plasma boxes "this way up"

The instructions for the panny plasmas tell you, do not lay on side or turn upside down

We collected ours (42") from Bolton about a fortnight ago, the box fitted upright straight across the back seats, no problems at all.

no we dont have a range rover, fiat panda 100 hp, which is a tiddler....but is a 4 door .......
