Playstation 3 new upgrade???

Hi guys got my new sound system but im unsure about the ps3 set up. Do i just need a hdmi lead for it or do i also need an optical cable there seems to be mixed feelings. Someone said since the new download is available you dont need the optical cable is this true??

Depends if it has 'hidef audio' capabilities or not

If not then an optical is fine. if it DOES then you must feed it via a HDMI cable

Your PS3 will decode HD audio and output pcm via HDMI to your amp. You need to know if your amp can process the HD pcm stream. Look up your amp specs to find out. If it can't handle HD audio you can still get DD/DTS via either HDMI or optical.

As discussed above, if you want HD audio you will need to connect the two via HDMI:

On the PS3

Select Sound Settings
Select HDMI
Select Auto
Check that all the DD, DTS and all PCM boxes (up to 7.1) are ticked
Save settings
Go to the BD/DVD settings
Select audio output as PCM and save settings

You only need an optical cable if your amp doesn't have an HDMI input.

No, as your amp is capable of processing LPCM over HDMI. You only need the HDMI cable and follow the instructions above in my previous post.
