So, who purchased the very first 1080p racing game at the weekend and what are your thoughts?

Does it live up to the hype and, more importantly, how good does it look and sound on your system?

Yes bought it Friday morning.

I have had it on my Pioneer 428xd and on the 26" bravia upstairs.

Obviously through Pioneer and Denon it is awesome to look at and listen to.

Gameplay not too bad either!

Haven't cheeked the sound yet (still decorating) but the picture on the Bravia 46" is UNBELIEVABLE !
As
for the gameplay, the lack of damage on the car makes it feel a bit
arcade although there isn't much room for mistakes if you're aiming for
pole.

Agree great graphics and the HD picture is superb. However as for ame play I think it's a bit easy, my 6 year old son has virtually finished the game already. He just needs the 3million credits for the F1

Been playing it quite a lot - Both visuals and sound are fabulous through my system. Game is great, though beginning to struggle a little now!

It's always good to hear a 6 year old has nearly completed it while you're struggling to even get 3rd on the last few races in class A (which seems pretty hard if you ask me!!). Mind you I am racing with Professional settings - please, please, please tell me he's racing on Standard...

I hope that's standard too...

Although the trickiest bit is purchasing the game online, installing and then getting the patch.

Indeed - I bought my copy from Play, only to find it then has to install it on to the hard drive..! You still need the disc to play though (presumably to prevent "lending" it to a friend). Once this was done, then had to get the patch - it was over 30 mins before I could even play the thing!!

Still was worth it in the end and made sure I got the washing up done...

Isn't it just a large demo of GT5 ? When is the full game being released?

Full game is scheduled to be released in September, though it's anyone guess if it will be - they won't release it until they think they've got it as good as they can.

It's a very large demo, 30 events split into 3 classes, about 70 odd cars to collect, time trial and drift trial modes (which you can compare your best times against other people in the world), 16 player online play and also 2 player split screen + more!

He's now done it all on Standard and has started on professional and seems to be flying through it. Believe me I don't know how. I just sit there spell bound. I wouldn't mind but he only got the PS3 last week.

The idea is that, even with the full game, you can keep buying track and car content - an incredible amount if Polyphony are to be believed.

And have you seen the set up mode?! It talks about cables, shows speaker positions and says 720p is better than 1080i on the scale of quality - surely a first for a game? But then this is the company that suggested that you played the last Gran Turismo using three (!) flatscreens for the best experience, using a TV for each side window of your car...

Yup, that level is very hard - took me about 20 gos! Try and slipstream everyone as much as possible, only moving off the racing line to overtake...

The dreaded jazz is back, in 7.1! And the soft rock is amazing. It's as if the development team live in a time capsule!

The closest I came was 4th so far - that involved alot of luck, and using too much speed but bouncing off the insides of other turning cars in bends... :)[/quote]
You need to turn off the traction control and stability management stuff and then just floor it all the way round.
After what seemed like 50 attempts, much shouting, swearing, general bad behaviour and an extremely sore right thumb, I made the suggested changes and came in 2nd......just being pipped at the post by the Mini Cooper.
I don't know why I buy driving games (GT5p, Motor Storm, Ridge Racer). I usually end up losing my temper. Perhaps I need to get one of those lovely logitech g25s to lighten the whole experience.
