I need to sort out my music to make for handy playback.I have no way of playing my music at the moment, I have
an onkyo 606 and was going to just buy a cd player but then I starting
reading on here and looking at other options. One option I think I have is to rip my
music again and buy a big harddrive and the western digital tv media player and connect that to the 606. Would a simple cd player be the way to go and also would a DAC be any use to me.

From someone with a CDP and TT my answer may annoy a few on here but I would go down the Big hard drive DAC etc route. I cannot comment on what you will need as I do not know so I'll leave that to the more knowlegable.
If your 606 has front Pre-outs then spend the money you would have spent on a CDP on a decent stereo amplifier.

What exactly would I need for the hard drive dac route. Im not looking to spend too much maybe £200 tops. Would the western digital player be any good for what I need to do.

I assume you already have a PC/Laptop?? Is this used near the HiFi or will you need to stream music to the HiFi?? Unless you go down the WDTV route of course.

Does the £200 budget need to cover the DAC, External HDD and WDTV (if decided upon)??

No the hi fi is in a kind of games room about 200 yards away from the house where the pc is. The wd tv and hard drive appeals to me. Would a dac simply improve the sound quality from the wd tv. How would sound quality on a wd tv without a dac compare with say a £200 cd player

Thanks
