Hi,

I´m thinking of buying a panasonic tx p50v10 (or 42" if sd content looks awful) plasma when it comes out at the end of may, but read in a magazine that Oled tvs may be available as early as the end of this year or early next year.

Does anybody know if it´s worth holding out for an oled tv instead. Are they really on the brink of releasing these, and if so what are the chances something in the 40-50" range will be affordable? I´ve seen sony´s 11" attempt at around £3K - 4K, but obviously this will come down. Is something like the samsung 40" prototype likely to be available in 2010/11 at anywhere near a reasonable price (1k-2k)?

About plasmas - how prone are modern panasonics to developing burn-in or image retention when playing games or watching films with black bars?

Thanks in advance for any info.

OLED technology at a reasonable size and price will not be available for a very long time.

Permnaent Screen burn is vary rare on modern screens when used normally within a demostic situation with the advances in both screen and anti-burn technology so evey a good gaming session is quite safe, you may have some mild image retention but this will fade quite quickly and is nothing to worry about.

Absolutely, maybe as big as 20" and starting at 2000 UK Pounds!

Seriously, OLEDs in the 40-50" in the 'consumer' price range are several years away (I'd guess at least 5 years). I am working in the display technology industry and I believe I have pretty good idea about it.
