I have just bought a VSX-LX70 and I have connected my Bluray player via a HDMI cable.

The problem is its only decoding to PCM is there anyway of getting the receiver to decode to dolby digital EX and to say this on the front of the unit instead of PCM?

Also is decoding to PCM a lower quality than Dolby digital EX/DTS-ES?

Thanks

Hi biz71,

First of all if you go to page 31 of the instruction manual (i have the same amp as you) & look under the "choosing the input signal" & press the (signal select) button to switch between the settings etc & see if that works, do this whilst your watching a bluray or dvd with a 5.1 soundtrack , i have my setting set to auto on this.

If that doesnt work then the problem could lie with your bluray player, which player do you have biz71? As you may need to make some adjustments on that, check you have your player bitstreaming etc.

Let me know how you get on & ill see if i can help any further.

Let me know how you get on & ill see if i can help any further.

Jase thanks,

I have tried this and the only input signal its allowing is a HDMI. In the manual on page 86 it states that DVD-Audio material over the HDMI will show as PCM?

Should I have a the sound into the reciever via a optical cable to get it to switch other formats?

The bluray palyer I have is a panasonic BMP-DB35.

Thanks agian

Cool, i thought it may have been your bluray player settings as its very common for folk to miss these.

As the amplifier is only going to display what its detecting.

Glad you have it sorted Biz, its a great amp by the way !
