hi this is my first post on here, i currently have a pioneer pdp-436sxe and sky hd, and looking to upgrade

as im only sitting 2m away from the tv i think a 50inch is a bit too big so going to stick to a 42"(tho the pdp-5090 is tempting)

would like another pioneer but was wondering if the older 428xd is better than the phillips 42pfl9664 im also looking to get a blueray player

how much of an improvement would i see over my now out of date tv? if i could have a 50inch there would be no choice to make, it would be the pioneer without a doubt

any advice greatly appreciated

cheers

The 428 is long gone and if you were able to buy i presume it would be used. Without factoring in the cost differences I would say it would be a close call. The 428xd was 720p but still produced an exceptional picture. If TV is your main veiwing I would imagine the images would be superior on th Pioneer.

If you can go to a 50" then the 5090 is to my eyes a vastly superior screen. We have the pioneer side by side with teh 47PFL9664 and I would choose the Pioneer every day.

I would definitely not go bigger than 42" at 2m viewing distance. You might even try out a 37". I have a Pioneer 4280 and sit nearly 3m away. If I get closer, I start to see 'nasties'.
