Pioneer 5090 Questions!

Hi All,

I really feel very bad and guilty at the moment because I just bought a Pioneer 5090 plasma when I should not have (nor could I really afford to do so!) but with prices reported to be going up again, the 5 year warranty deal soon ending and a false press rumour that Pioneer were no longer making any integrated sets after April, I felt if all that was to happen then there will be no way then I will ever have the option to afford one. I really hope I did the right thing - maybe I should have waited for the new Panny V10's?

Anyway, the main question I would like to ask is if the 5090H which is the European version (but which I have noticed many in the UK too have) also has a fully functioning Freeview Tuner and EPG (Electronic Programming Guide as well? I have not yet received mine and just in case I end up with one of those, I want to make sure that it has the same functions and features (more would be better, less is definitely not acceptable as it has cost me an arm and leg!) as the UK ones? If I get a 5090H version, should I be worried or be concerned about anything at all? The Pioneer web-site (from what I can tell) does not mention anything about Freeview on the 5090/5090H unless I missed it. I would be very grateful to hear from any 5090H owners and/or the WHF team!

Thank You!

Bazzy!

Hi All,

Thanks for the replies! I am glad that the freeview will work as I just did not want yet another external box and more wires cluttering up the space - it's amazing how spaghetti junction soon develops with just a few cables! Never did I really believe I would be able to get a Kuro! Still a little worried about whether it might be a little too big as my fixed viewing distance is just 8.4 feet but some kind folks here seem to believe it should be OK! It's basically the SD TV programmes I am only concerned about! Now, if I end up with square eyes or thick glasses, you will know why!

Hi

I got my 5090H this week better than the standard 5090 as it has an ethernet connection which is a plus for me, very happy with the panel glad i took the plunge i would have kicked myself if i did not get one of these before they go.

Regards.

Hi

Thanks for the input - I am too happy for having the 'H" version - I really wanted the DLNA networking option. Comparing the specs between the 5090 & 5090H, the latter really has a considerable number of features more than the former, it is almost the same as a KRP model! I have read that it also has a nicer user interface and some sort of preview function when switching channels or sources? It is missing the Polish language setting over the 5090 but to me, that's a blessing!ÿ

Ah, after much deliberation I thought I'd chosen my new tv (a 5090); however things just more complicated when I realised there was an H version available, which would compliment my wireless network. So, back to those that know - is the H worth the extra, is it available and what should I expect to pay? I'd negotiated the 5090 down to £1850 with a local Pioneer dealer and was wondering how that compares with other real time deals?

Thanks, rgbdirect have the 5090 advertised in this month's Whathifi at £1649 - too good to be true? "I'm sorry Mr Merrydew that offer has now ended and there's been a price increase. The new price is £1949!"
