The Philips 42PFL9664 TV will be reviewed in our October issue 40-42in TV Supertest, on sale middle of August.

It's part of the new Philips 2009 TV range, and comes in 42 and 47in sizes. The Cinema 21:9 is Philips's flagship model and - as the name suggests - has a much wider screen. The 9664 is a 16:9 set and sits beneath the 21:9 model in the line-up.

Hi Andy!

Look forward to reading about the Philips in the supertest! Will you also by any chance review the 47" version as well and do you have any info on the likely cost this set?

Hi, its great to see TVs coming to market with internet access via the ethernet cable. Does anyone know whether you'd be able to access photos stored on a NAS drive directly through this TV, or would you still need a media player of some sort between TV and NAS drive?

I know it is possible to view photos on a TV by linking your PC to it, but I'm longing for the simplicity of not having to switch on so many devices... so this TV could be a step in that direction.

Thanks

Hi Andy!

Can you shed any light - Is the UK going to get the 47" 9664? Also, there is the flagship 9704 Series will we be getting that as well and in what sizes?

Andy Clough:Yes, the UK will be getting the 47in 9664 too. Don't know exactly when we'll be testing it. And yes, we'll get the 9700 Series too, as you can read in my previous link.

Hi Andy,

I just got an email response from Philips Customer Services which stated that only the 40" 9704 will be introduced to the UK and that they have no plans to bring the 46" 9704 to the UK market. I find this really strange (but not surprising anymore) as to why Philips would do such a silly thing - why would they exclude the important UK market for their biggest & latest Top End LED backlit model? What is it about the UK that they feel they can dilute the product range to consumers here but not in other countries? Is Poland for example, more of a valuable market than the UK for them? I think not - once again, UK consumers get screwed and bypassed! If it was a 70" model, maybe I can understand that they might feel there might not be enough of a market for it but they offer 46" models across other ranges so why exclude their most desirable model? Sorry Andy, but it just goes to show that Philips are still run by a bunch of biblically stupid buffoons imho.
