A friend of mine has recently purchased a Philips TV with Ambilight, Problem is they don't know how to switch the Ambilight on, I don't know which model it is but was asked if I could help, as they live too far away I can't go round to have a look.

Any suggestions?

If they know the model number you can probably download the manual and help them that way.

Someone may be able to help you further.

From a random Philips manual (presumably they're all pretty much the same):

1. Press the MENU/BROWSE key on the remote control.
> The main menu appears.
2. Select TV menu and press the cursor right.
> The TV Menu is moved to the left.
3. Select TV settings and press the cursor right.
> The TV settings menu is moved to the left panel.
4. Select Ambilight and press the cursor right.
> The Ambilight menu is moved to the left panel.
5. Use the cursor up/down to select the Ambilight menu
items.
6. Press the cursor right to enter the selected Ambilight menu
item.
7. Use the cursor keys to adjust the settings.
8. Press the cursor left to return to the Ambilight menu.
Ambilight
Allows you to switch the lights On or Off at the rear of the
TV.

other ambilight menu items.

settings in the menus below.

Gratulations JohnD, 6000 posts. Not bad going but you have been very quiet ... just savoring the moment I guess ...

Thanks JD.

After talking through on the phone and getting nowhere, got the model number and done a search, 42PFL5603D/10.
It turns out that this model doesn't have the ambilight. Model 7603D does have it. Turns out my friend ordered the wrong TV from thier catalogue.

But did find something odd when I looked for the same TV in my local high street catalogue.
Looking in the catalogue I have at home it says the 5603D has ambilight and 3HD Enhancement. Both wrong. The 5603D is only HD, then they do a 2HD version, the 3HD model is a totally different number again.
Interesting..

Interesting..
