I've bought a philips 37pfl9603d on the strength of the recent magazine (best 37" award 2008).

While generally the picture is very good, there seem to be two problems with it:

The main one is that the sound is out of sync with the picture - mainly noticeable when people are speaking. I have the same problem with the integrated freeview, the sky hd box, blu-ray player & dvd player - all of which had no problems with my previous lcd tv. I've tried various combinations of settings but can't seem to correct this problem - is it a fault as such or is this tv known to be like this?

The other issue is that movement appears to be slightly too fast at times.

It's a lot of money to pay for a tv & have to "put up with" minor issues like this, it seems unlikely that a tv could win best 37" in the magazine with the sound out of sync with peoples lips?

Have you tried turning off 'HD Natural Motion' in the picture menu?

Yes, tried it with natural motion off, at minimum & maximum - the speech is still out of sync

I bought a 42" 7603. I have the lipsynch problem intermitantly with all sources. The lip-synch settings on my onkyo amp only has a limited affect. Sometimes the problem is hardly noticeable but when it is it is very annoying on a £1000 tv. If it is a known problem I would love to find out and get a replacement.

Thank you, that would be much appreciated because in most other aspects the picture quality is amazing, although the £125 isotek mains cable i hope must have some effect. I also notice with natural motion a slight glimmering around objects and some backlight seepage. Most of the time when I am not beining over-obsesive i just sit and marvel at the picture especially with a disc such as Band of Brothers so it would be nice to fix this one major problem.

System: Philips 42" 7603, Onkyo amp, Sony DVD recorder, Mission 780se, Mission 78c, mission m3ds, jpw sub and mixture of isotek and russ Andrews mains cables

After talking to Philips & trying all of their suggestions, they advised me to contact the retailer & ask for a replacement.

They took it back & tested it but couldn't find a fault (they didn't notice any lip-synching problems) so are going to send it back to me, & I think charge me for the collection/delivery.

I'm hoping that it's miraculously fixed itself but I'm not optimistic - a lot of money to pay for a tv with a flaw that a cheap tv doesn't have!

Here's the response we got from Philips:

"If the consumer has a home theatre system (not clear from the post) then the Lip sync setting must be adjusted on the HTS to match the picture processing time .
For all inputs, the picture/ sound timing is fixed within the television and optimised to the picture processing time of the panel within the set, therefore if the software has been updated within the TV then it may take a few channel zaps before the timing is reset.
We would suggest that the user also updates the software within the TV to the latest version if they have not already done so, already.
It is extremely unlikely that the TV itself is causing these issues.
We'd welcome any further feedback from this consumer after he's carried out this basic checks on his set-up "

Hi, I own a 37PFL7603, bought last August. I havent updated the firmware yet, as people seem to have horror stories of their set going bananas once they update! Is it simple to do and are the benefits worth it? Cheers

Interested to see if the problem got fixed on this as interested in the same tv myself.....to link up to a av as well

Have you linked it up to a console and does it have any lag issues?

Would you buy it again .....assuming all the problems are behind you?

Thanks

I bought this t.v a few months back and I still can't get a decent picture. I mainly watch football on the t.v and I have managed to get the settings so that I get a superb picture when watching in HD but if I watch a match not in HD then the picture is awful - blurring, lag and jagged edges - for such an expensive t.v I was hoping for a good picture without having to change the settings depending on what channel I am watching. Does anyone have their picture setting available for me to try if you are happy with the viewing quality on your set? I contacted Philips direct but they would not help - they just suggested downloading the new firmware - which I have done - but this made no difference to the picture. I have tried fiddling with the settings but tend to make the picture worse not better!!!

Thank you.
