what make/model of laptop is it?

Most modern laptops have a hdmi socket in them, so it's as simple as a hdmi cable is all you need. Older ones may require a vga cable for the video and then a 3.5mm jack to either 3.5mm/2x phono cable for the sound.

Also depends on what connectors your tv has on it.

I have an Acer laptop 5 years old, no hdmi socket. TV has three HDMI sockets (2 in rear & 1 on side), but all used for BLu-ray: dvd and PVR

ok cool.

According to the sony website, it has a vga port on the tv, so you just need a standard vga to vga (male on both ends) cable for the video and a 3.5mm to 3.5mm audio cable which will go in to the vga socket on the back just below the vga connector.

Hope this helps :)

Thanks! That worked a treat. I dont get surroun'd sound and the pic is not HD, but with TV sound and PC souind up the result is satisfactory. One more question. I'm thinking of getting a new Acer Laptop which has a HDMI out socket. Then I suppose one HDMI connect cable will give me HD pic and sound. Is that correct?
