Passive vs Active 3D TV Question

The short version is active is more detailed but passive can be more comfortable. The comfort of an active TV seems to be tied in to the motion performance, when I was looking last year the ES7000 and HX8 were super comfy to watch in active, but the lower down the range actives were not.

Passive sets you have to be carefull about the hight of your tv (think mounting above the mantle piece), if you are looking up or down at the tv at all in won't work properly. You can fix this with angle wall mount brackets.

If you are looking at a midrange set go passive, if you are looking high end go active would be my advice. (Actually, my advice would be dont pick a tv based on 3d preference because you will get bored of it after two films, but that's just me :) )

my question is here (2nd time it happened now..)

i am going to buy a 3d tv and thinking of buying either an active samsung tv or passive LG tv. i have trouble picking active vs passive

i could get a 47" LG tv but i heard passive you get 508 lines per eye or something which is illusioned full hd as with active you get 1920x1080p which is full hd for both eyes. does watching it look exactly the same as passive or does it look weird? as some eyes turn off or something i heard where you cant see the image from one eye..i want no real big distraction

my other choice is a 42" samsung active 3d tv. i might wait few months see what new tv's sony and other brands are releasing

I thought the actives have more problems than passives, as they suffer from crosstalk.

They do, particularly on LED. So Nugget, unless you're deciding between the 8 series Samsung and the 8600 LG, I would probably go with the passive LG, especially if 3D is an important factor.

nope, passive works very poorly at hight because the film pattern retarder (fpr) only has a vertical veiwing angle of around 15 degrees.

so it seems both types of 3d have their disadvantages..the lower quality of passive 3d and awkward viewing angles make me want to choose the samsung

Seems to me that the whole 3D thing has run out of steam, especially for home viewing, so I'd advise buying the TV giving best picture quality on 2D material, and consider 3D a novelty you may watch once or twice, not the be all and end all of choosing a new TV.

i thought most LED tv's at £500+ were bundled with 3D anyway? i searched for a few without

the panasonic viera TXL47ET60B looked good with 600hz motion processing priced at £700 for 47 inches. this has 3d bundled into it with free 5 year guarantee. best one i've found so far
