Hi everyone and thanks for the help.

I'd settled on buying the Panasonic 37px80 based on everyone's rave reviews. But then I saw the 37px8 which is £100 cheaper and so actually within my original budget (you know, the one you never stick to).

I see the main difference is a lower contrast - 10,000 vs 15,000 on the px80.

Not sure what that means in practice - does anyone have an opinion on how it compares? (I can't find any store where I can see it in action). Is my £100 savings going to result in a significantly lesser picture? WIll watch mostly dvds and some freeview.

Also, the one disadvantage I find of plasma is the glare from windows/ lights. Anyone have an opinion on how these tvs are that way?

thanks.

hi Alex,

As mentioned in other posts, there are other differences too, which makes the PX8 a firmly entry-level product.

It doesn't have the same colour-handling system as the 80, for example. It also uses an older form of picture processing (VReal 2) than the PX80 (VReal 3), which could effect aspects such as motion-handling.

On the features front, it has one less HDMI socket. It also doesn't have the Eco mode of the PX80, which potentially means it'll cost more to run.

I'm sure the PX8 is a decent entry-level product - we haven't seen a poor Panasonic flatscreen for yonks - but with a proven, higher-spec model only £100 more, it's a bit of an oddity, IMHO.
