I've ordered one of these and it arrives on Saturday however I'm starting to have second thoughts and I was wondering if anyone here had any experience with this set. I currently have a 32" Samsung that is about 4 years old. I've never been very impressed with it especially watching films where I find fast motion and dark scenes particularly difficult to watch.

I did assume that the technology in this area had come along some way and so when I saw the Panasonic for £499 ordered it. After looking at the TV section in John Lewis today though I'm wondering though if these limitations are inherent in the technology. To be honest I wasn't too impressed with anything I saw. I have seen the above TV in the flesh and it looked good however it was showing an animation from a blu-ray source which probably wouldn't show up these limitations.

Has anyone got any experience of this TV? Am I likely to be disappointed with it or have things moved forward in the last 4 years?

Thanks gel. What was the material you watched on it? The biggest problem for me is watching films with lots of dark scenes especially at night. It's like watching everything through a grey fog!

I saw it in the currys shop, john lewis and the pansonic shop and in john lewis and currys it has a really good picture even better than the V one, i am not sure what the material was but the picture looked really good.

Okay, maybe I'll give it a go then. I think the only alternative would be a Plasma which would mean a minimum of 40" or wait for LED or whatever is next on the horizon to come along.

Okay having looked around at what else is about I'm wondering if I would be better off with a Plasma. There seem to be some bargains around at the moment as well (e.g. 42" Panasonic for £399). What are the downsides to a plasma? Most of my watching is SD Freview, some DVD, some BR and very occasional gaming.

Thanks, review does sound good but looking at the comments from owners it does seem to have the same issues as my existing TV (i.e. poor blacks). The problem is I don't know how bad this problem is compared to my current TV. If the situation is much improved then I could probably accept the compromise.

Do you have to buy right this minute (I guess with World Cup looming, that's probably a yes!): we've got a 37in TV Supertest coming up in our next issue; with subscribers from 25th June, in shops by 30th. Just in time to see England in the second round

Hi Clare, I've actually been to a local TV store today and seen a Sony EX403 40" set and was really impressed with it. It had Star Trek playing and looked pretty good; lots of detail in the dark scenes, fairly good motion and no obvious backlight related issues. Plus I can return it if not happy. And compared to the Panasonic it has more of the features I need and less of the ones that are superfluous. Don't this has been reviewed by WHF but noticed the EX503 got a good write up. So hopefully I found my new TV.

I am looking for a 37" LED TV and next month's supertest is perfect timing. Will it include the Philips 05 series even though they appear not to be available just yet? Toss up between Samsung, Panaonic and Philips at the moment.
