Hello All,

First time here so be kind.

After much research I have plumped for the Panasonic TH37PX80B and am now in the process of finding where to buy it. After reading these forum pages I decided John Lewis would be my best bet as they are selling for £560 with a 5 year guarantee. Alas, they have non in stock and say Panasonic are 'upgrading' the model. Most other retailers offer only a manufacturers 12 month warranty for the £560 price, and charge for any further product support. M&S are charging £650 with a 5 year guarantee.

And so, here is the possibly silly question.. Is it worth paying the extra for the 5 year guarantee, or are these TVs reliable enough not to bother?

Argos, £569 with free 3yr guarantee is your best bet. (No upgrades are expected until the 2009 models, take no notice of JL).

You do seem to need an extended guarantee. They are not as reliable as the old CRTs (Panasonic are better than some other makes) and of course they are costly to replace if they do fail.

Panasonic are offering a free 5 year warranty on a range of Viera sets including the TH-37PX80B, details here:-

You'll need to search for a retailer on the Panny website running the offer as I don't think you'll get it in most places. If you want to take advantage of this you'll need to be quick as it ends on Friday (31st Oct). This same deal was run in September so I would expect them to do it again.

Thanks Rewerb and MrKermit.

Have followed your advice MrKermit, and so far it seems Panny dealers offering the 5yr deal are charging £679.95, making M&S cheaper. Having said that, if, after some phoning around in the morning, I don't get a better price, I'll go with Rewerbs tip and visit Argoloids. I know. It's Argos. I've just always called it Argoloids.

Cheers.

Jim.

Personally I would not even buy a kettle from Argos yet alone a Plasma!

One thing Argos are good at is replacing the set if you dont like it for whatever reason. No arguments, it gets replaced/exchanged/refunded - your choice.
