Hello,

I came down the other morning to find 4 dvd's hanging out of the front of my sony is10 home cinema system courtesy of my little boys paws and now it will not play/load any dvd discs. So i'm contemplating buying a new dvd player but don't really want to spend a fortune so would like some advice. I'm planning on a little trip to Richer sounds so wondered if it was a better option to get a Sony BDS370 player or go for a full PANASONIC SCBT230 system if either of these are any good? I would like to spend as little as possible so am thinking about the Sony player but would I then be able to hook it up to the original Sony IS10 system to allow me to use the surround sound system?

Thanks Paul.

You can hook the Sony BDP-S370 into your DAV-IS10 system using the digital optical or coaxial inputs (assuming one of them is free) and get standard surround sound, so this is definitely a possibility.

On the other hand, the Panasonic system will give you the benefit of HD sound from your Blu-Rays since it has the ability to decode the Dolby TrueHD and DTS HD Master Audio formats, and also has an ARC compatible HDMI port meaning you don't need a separate optical cable back to the system to use it with your normal TV - should either of these features be important to you, it's definitely worth considering. I've not seen it in action, but the reviews suggest it's a decent buy, although not the best around. I'd also recommend looking at the Sony BDV-E370 and the LG HB905PA packages as well.
