I got my TV connected to the amp via HDMI and I watch TV mainly through my SKY HD box, but sometimes my partner just wants to stick the TV on without messing about so what would I need to do to get that to work, do I just need to connect audio leads to the amp to get the sound using a 2RCA to 2RCA lead ?

Thanks

Damian

On my Panasonic G10, you simply run an optical lead to the Denon receiver, set the Denon's TV input assignment to optical, and use Viera link to switch on the receiver and select the correct input automatically simply by switching on the TV.

I dont think there is an optical out on the PZ85 and my set up runs via the Logitech Harmony one

I nearly bought this tv (PZ85) & i can confirm that it does have an optical out, it's the PZ80 that doesn't, it has rca/phono outs.

Just to clarify, DJE, are you asking how your partner can

a) just watch the TV without the Sky box or amp in use,
b) watch Sky via the TV without the amp,
c) or watch the TV without Sky but with the sound through the amp?

If a) or c), you'll need an antenna connection to the TV so the internal tuner can work, and for c) you'll need an audio feed from the TV to the amp, as already discussed.

For b) you'll need to connect the Sky box straight to the TV, not via the amp, and run the optical audio connection from the Sky box to the amp, as you'll have to anyway if you want surround sound and not just stereo through the amp, given that Sky only outputs stereo over HDMI.
