Hi,

I have a Panasonic DVD LA95 portable player which is in its 7th year. The other day the screen just went black while watching a film - the sound still works, but there is no picture, only a slight hint of it is visible when placed in direct light.

The machine is out of warranty, but I´ve emailed panasonic to see if they know what to do - I was just wondering if anybody on this forum has or has had a portable dvd player and experienced this problem, and if so whether it was fixable (and cost-effective to do so), or if any of those who work with electronics might know what´s wrong.

It´s annoying on another level because one of the reasons I had chosen to go with one of the new panasonic plasmas in june was on the basis of their reliability, which I had assessed through the good performance of this little machine.

I´d appreciate any advice anybody might have, and hope panasonic get back to me and restore my faith in their products.

Thanks

Yes, it was used quite often, but i donït think excessively as I have used a stand alone dvd player in that time as well, but it wasnït just something I had in case of a trip - I think I have got good mileage out of it. I think (not sure) it was one of the first panasonic portables and really expensive at the time. Just hoping something could be done about it.

Also, it makes me slightly more reluctant to spend a lot on one of their plasmas if it may break down in a few years. When you spend that much on something you want to know that itïll last - although I agree the dvd player may have reached the end of its life cycle, but if it could be fixed relatively cheaply then great.

Don't think you can necessarily predict the reliability of a plasma TV based on the performance of a portable DVD player. And as others have said, seven years use doesn't seem to be too bad.

Panasonic products our generally pretty reliable in our view, so I wouldn't worry about it too much. As for repairing the DVD player, probably best to call Panasonic on 08705 357357 and see if they can help.

Thanks for the number Andy, Iïll give them a call tomorrow and see what they say. I will definetely still look at the panasonic v10 plasma, and whfïs review because it has impressive features and I like the slim design and one sheet of glass look of the set.
