For something as complicated as a fairly large television, I would certainly buy from a physical shop, rather than from the internet. Having in the past four years bought two Pioneer plasmas, an surround-sound receiver, a Blu-ray player, two subwoofers, and various other bits and pieces from them, I can recommend one of the dealers who regularly features in these forum pages. One other thing to consider is how long a guarantee is offered. My dealer gives a five-year guarantee on televisions, and delivery and assembly onto their table-top stands, which you may not get if buying from the internet.

Richer Sounds only stock the 55ST50 at a limited number of stores now, while the ST50 isn't available from John Lewis at any screen size. They'd be my retailers of choice, but things get a little trickier if your local Richer Sounds doesn't hold the stock.

Depending on your location, an online retailer may be your only option. If so, be sure to confirm (via email so you have proof) that the retailer has a fair returns policy and will look after you in case of problems.

Costco is a good place to buy TVs from, unfortunately they still don't stock the new Panasonic's though, but they do have stock of the new flagship Sony at about £1430 (I think). I think RGB Direct are quite fair with their return policy. Hifix are good with returns but don't do TVs any more.

TPS is another one I have seen advertised on the forums. They have the Panasonic 55st50 at £1300 with a five year warranty, not sure about their terms though, could be worth a call.

Costco have been selling some Panasonics for several weeks, and they have a 90-day returns policy. However, their price today for the 55ST50 is £450 more than the £1415 offer that MrW tells us from House of Fraser, which I must say is a terrific price and includes a 5-year guarantee. Only four units left in stock though, so speed is of the essence!

A 'little bird' told me that Comet may be dropping all in store prices by 30% from Saturday, not sure how reliable this is, but could be worth a look?
