Hi Guys,

Just taken delivery of my new TX-P50VT20B, and all I can seem to hear is a constant buzzing sound when the TV is on, is this normal?

Many thanks,

Lall

Plasma TVs do buzz unfortunately, it's a bi-product of how they run.

However, it should never be so noticeable that it spoils your viewing, but I know from experience with a samsung that I eventually returned that this does happen and that once you have noticed it, it becomes extremely annoying.

Does it happen all the time, or on certain sources? I found with anything bright it was worse.

I would suggest contacting your supplier and see what they offer to do, in my case samsung sent out an engineer 3 times, to fit new drives and isolation feet, before agreeing to a re-fund.

Good luck!

Hi, thank you for your reply,

Having read various articles about the issue I was aware that plasmas do have a tendency to make this buzzing noise. Unfortunately, It's so noticeable that it does spoil my viewing, and it really is a constant annoyance - it happens all the time, whenever the TV is on.

Guess I'll just have to contact Panasonic and see what they can do for me,

Cheers!

I have had my Pioneer 43" Plasma telly for more than five years now. I can honestly say that I have never heard any buzzing from it, constant or otherwise, so I not going to be claiming that all Plasmas make a buzzing sound. Nope, it's silent as the grave in that respect.

Come to think of it, the plasmas I looked at in Currys today weren't buzzing either.

I wonder if it might be a "characteristic" of a certain manufacturer or, of course, it could be a fault? Try having the power supply module checked out. It might be mains hum you are hearing. Any electrical device can suffer from that.

Hoof, the title tells you the manufacturer, and all plasmas do buzz, most you can't hear even if the volumes down and with your ear stuck on the cabinet, but it will be buzzing somewhere, it's down to the drives on the unit, but sometimes the isolation is not fitted properly and this transmits through the rear cabinet making the sound louder.

He's just unlucky to get one that you can hear.

EDIT: love the name by the way, we used to have it as our quiz pub team name.

i had a couple of this years panny's and they do buzz.. you can be lucky and get a 'quietier' one.. my current 42VT20 is fine.. but before that i had a V20 that buzzed quite badly.. its worse when there's high contrast white pictures on screen.. lots of white writing etc.. mounting of the tv could also be an issue.. buzz seems to be worse when wall mounted.. if on its pedestal stand doesnt seem quite so bad.. i had one really loud v20, which i had replaced.. it had a rasping buzz comig from the upper right side of the panel as you looked at it..
