Having had this tv for 2 weeks here is my opinion for what it`s worth. great black levels, deep colours and great looking set. But when watching sd(freeview) I noticed blurring of detail especially in the mid distance-peoples faces especially. I did all the tweaking and followed the set up advice in whs&v and it didnt improve things much. So..... I borrowed a friend of mine`s 37 inch lcd full hd pana (think it was the "80") and we ran them side by side using the same feed. the result?? no contest.the lcd won hands down in almost all areas. even the black levels were closer than you would imagine. I am not been seduced by the brightness etc of lcd it`s just that it simply had more detail and a far better picture. blu ray was stunning on the lcd and merely good on the plasma. I am very confused as to why this set gets so much praise. Are we all been fooled and just believing what we are told. The set went back today and the guy in the shop said he wasnt surprised that I brought it back and it was obvious which set had the better pq ( no, I didnt buy the lcd-too costly!!) I`m not in to "winding people up " with this post i`m merely stating what I (and others) see. comments???

Each to his own I say.

Some people prefer the overly sharp, processed look of LCD the same way some people prefer the treble turned right up on their Hi-Fi.

Personally, I think the PX80 is superior to the LZD80 in almost every way (apart from maybe with a 1080p feed and then I am not sure)

I am yet to see a LCD that can compete with a good plasma though I haven't seen Sony's new baby yet which I believe is very good.

At the end of the day LCD gives a totally different picture compared to Plasma, some poeple are going to prefer one to the other.

I have to agree with you, Oy, having seen both sets side by side in an excellent dealer just yesterday. Next to the two Panas was the new Sony KDL-40w4000, incidentally. Each set was showing the BBC HD sampler at first. IMHO, the plasma has a cinematic and 'natural' quality - grand in documentary landscapes, but still real life. There was an incredible amount of life in the Sony Torchwood picture - great if that's what you like - but actually too vivid for my taste.

I'm very surprised by the comments re SD material. It's where the Pana plasma should really score over Full HD sets. I asked for the TVs to be switched to French Open Tennis on BBCi and the Sony wasn't good enough for me (not half as good as a 37" Philips in my holiday cottage last week, actually.) As Oy says, it must be a matter of taste.
