I came home yesterday evening to a frustrated wife, she was hoping to get a 3D Johnny Depp fix having bought the latest Pirates movie. Unfortunatley the disc bugs out when it gets to the first menu screen. It displays the Disney title screen then the disc stops playing.

I emailed Oppo support and received a reply back within minutes < Full marks to Oppo for that.

Though they are aware of the problem - they have no solution < Not full marks to oppo.

They suggested a work around solution - to quickly press the enter button while the disney title is on in the hope that when the language menu which stops the disc loads it will default to the English version. I tried a couple of times to no avail, ended up using PS3 which loaded the disc okay.

I find it hard to understand how the Oppo will play the 2D bluray version but not the 3D version as they appear to have an almost identical menu system.

isnt it mad that there are still issues with blu-ray discs.. i know 3d blu-ray is relatively new but still.. have you tried it with bdlive off? i had issues with the 2d version of alice in wonderland (old cartoon version) on my panasonic bdt300 last year.. it took panasonic 6 months to email me back to say a new firmware update was on its way.. by the time it did i had the Oppo BD93.. id say Oppo will have a firmware update in the next few days - they have just gotten approval for mp3 playback so likely to be included asap in a release.. and they got an update in the US yesterday.. Uk is usually a couple of days behind.

I do not have the BD live switched on. I know Oppo responded very quickly to my email but their reply did not give out much hope for a speedy fix. At least its not a film I want to watch.

Quote from their response:-

" This is a reported issue with the Chinese and European release of the film. We unfortunately can't investigate this issue as the film has not been released in North America (where we are based) so we can't do further diagnostics. "
