Onkyo 876 sound settings?

Hi, Just in case someone can help...... Onkyo 876 is pretty frustrating as all the settings come as default 0db, but you can't make any adjustments while the source is running i.e. as soon as you hit the set up button, the music/dvd etc stops. You then make the manual adjustment and start the music up again to hear the difference. This is an unbelievably slow way of getting the best sound!

So my question..... has anyone gone through this process with theirs already and be willing to tell me what settingss they have? OR, is there an easier way to get good settings?

Thanks for any help!

p.s even at 0db it sounds really good, so it would be a huge bonus if it were to sound any better!

Once you're in the setup screen, isn't there an option to revert back to the display so you can make the adjustments as you describe, or is that just for picture-related adjustments.....? Trying to remember...

Hi, I don't think so - unless I'm doing something wrong. As soon as I hit the set up button, it turns everything off to display the set up screen. It's only when I exit the set up menu that everything starts up again....

The CH.SELECT button one row up from the bottom on the remote will let you choose channels, and then the LEVEL- and LEVEL+ buttons will let you change levels on the fly.

Manual, p71.

Yeah, annoying isn't it!? I thought I'd managed to do what you're trying to achieve when I was setting mine up, but it may just be for making picture adjustments - if no else has provided an answer by this evening I'll have a look when I get home from work...

Davo2008:Yes, but as you said - page 71!! I think I started saying "yeah, yeah, whatever" by page 4!!

Aaah. If you were like me, you'd want to know what all the buttons on the remote do even if you don't read the manual!

I must admit that I still don't know what the Re-EQ button does. I just know it works.

Excellent blog Andrew...

The 876 manual in particular (and many others I imagine) has the bad habit of referring to pages further along in the manual. So you start reading, and it says something like "see page 123" on this feature or that feature, so off you go to page 123, then back to page 6 (or whatever you were on), then the next bit says "see page 86", and so on and so on...

ÿI think I've read about 1/3 of the manual in detail - I keep meaning to read the whole thing cover to cover (now I'm familiar with the product, doing so may actually make some sense), but the prospect of doing so makes this unlikely to ever happen...
