I presently have a loewe individual selection 32 and sky plus through a basic phillips surround system with a ps3 run separately. Am thinking of updating by way of onkyo 606 and kef 2005 surround speaker system. Will there be a significant improvement? Should there be any problems in connecting? Any suggestions on appropriate leads?
Will there be a significant improvement?
Over a Phillips one box wonder.... definately!!
Should there be any problems in connecting?
No more complicated than your current setup.
Any suggestions on appropriate leads?
Depends on your budget. I would recommend QED Silver Micro speaker wire with those speakers, QED HDMIs from PS3 to amp and amp to TV, a decent scart from Sky to TV and optical cable from Sky to Amp As far as the speakers go, have you only got the room for lifestyle speakers? I ask because the more standard size speakers will have a lot more presence. Also considere the QAcoustic 1000i (don't forget the "i") speakers in your budget.

Hi Stephen,

I have the Kef 2005.2, if that is what your looking at, and paired to the 605 they are awsome (thanks to Clare for her guidance with my budget) . Dont see how they would not be just as capable on the 606. If your looking at 2005.3's i am usure of their abilities.

The KEF KHT 2005.2s - as shown in our recent test - are still stalwarts, too, but as peds mentioned there's a new Mk3 version due imminently: story here

Thanks for your advice.

Have now got the Onkyo and Kef set up, sounds great.

Just a quick query, have not got an optical cable from Sky to Amp. Is this necessary and will there be any improvement on what I have already. Sorry, still a novice.

Thanks. Steve

Yes - it'll give you surround sound on those programmes carrying it, which includes quite a lot of the content on Sky 1, movies, etc...
