Onkyo 606 does it matrix 5.1 pcm into 7.1?

Any one know if the 606 can matrix 5.1 pcm into 7.1?

Well that's what Dolby Pro Logic IIx does - so if it has that (and I'd be surprised if it doesn't), then yes it will.

Thats what I thought but a shop told me the 605 could not do this

Hmmm just looked at the 605's manual and it appears the shop is correct - for some reason the 605 will only apply Pro Logic IIx to stereo PCM sources, not to multichannel ones (though it will happily apply it to multichannel Dolby Digital, dts and their HD equivalents). The 606 isn't listed on their site yet so think we'll have to wait till some review units start arriving before we'll know if the new model is still limited in this way.

Just been through the 606 manual, and while it says PLIIx will work with multichannel inputs up to 96kHz, there's a disclaimer that says it may not work with 'all source formats'. I guess we'll just have to wait until we have one to play with.
