OMG price hike on Panasonic VT20

I hope not, as that was going to be the major difference for me over the Sony 46" 3D Ready LCD. Now they'll be pretty much the same once you add in the additional cost of the glasses and transmitter for the Sony.

Before anyone says it, yes, I know the Panasonic will have 4 extra inches over the Sony still, but as I tell the missus size isn't everything!

"ive seen them advertised on an irish website"

I've heard they're gonna be sold instore only. In other words, you have to have a demo to buy one.

Should be good for 3D with the response time of PDPs.

I bet Pioneer would've had a superb 3D TV.

Prices we were given back in February were 50in (£2000), 65in (£4000). Haven't heard anything to the contrary since, but will need to check tomorrow.

It is true , our buy price for the 50VT20 has gone up and the new retail price will be in the region of £2500. Still looks like a lot of TV for the money though. Not long until they are in the shops now.

Thats is a shame, yes its still going to be alot of TV even at £2500, but at £2000 it was potentially a corker!

Have you considered that the level of slathering over said 'bone' by yourselves and others - branding it a 'Kuro-killer' etc, before anyone's even seen it in action at any length - may have contributed to the price-hike? (Eg Panasonic know it's got a hyped-up audience ready to pay)

Not saying that's the case, but it's food for thought....

Anyhow, still very much looking forward to testing it. If it's anywhere near as good in prolonged testing as the spec/hype promises, it could still justify that new, higher price tag - especially with it being a 50in set.

Heh, would be fun to know if the sales people at Pansonic actually was getting a feel for the market reading forums like this one

For my part, the 50VT20 is already out, the best price I've seen in Sweden (online or otherwise) is about ?2900 (29.000 Skr). I'll have to settle for the 40-42" range if I want 3D. Samsung's 40C7700 still looks like my choice, but Sony's 40LX900 is said to be out by end of June, or so I was told by their customer service. And a 3D capable BD player (BDPS470) by the same time, or at least the firmware for 3D by the end of June for the player.

Any news on a test of the V20? Play.com already have the TX-P42V20B at £1199.99 pre-order. That's still above my max budget of 1k, but if it's good...

there is one positive side at £2500 you will have no problem picking one up - and of course picking one up at £2200 will seem an absolute bargain when the internet retailers drop the price

however not sure panasonic have got this right as resistance will be massive above £1999 -

ANNOYING --- this kind of tactic wouldnt work in the USA (why are we the mugs) where its probaly less than that in dollars

As far as i know, the only reason for the price hike that i heard was due to a part inside the VT20 that has gone triple the value causing the price increase to occur.
