Hi guy's I was just reminiscing about music class at school back in the early to mid 1980's. I remember my music teacher would play lots of classical overtures,William overture, the Pirates of Penzance and sir Malcom Arnold's,Tam o Shanter, I remember they all sounded amazing with fantastic dynamics and very little distortion at quite loud levels...it would give me goosebumps.lol.my question for those of us old enough to remember school in the 80's.what the heck did they play it on..it was like a huge wooden cabinet music centre with turntable, tape deck(i think)and I can swear that the speakers were built into it,but from the sound it emited,it must have cost a few bob. I'm assuming schools up and down the uk would have been using the same sort of equipment back then.I would have had music first and second year(in Scotland),8-9 in England, which would have been 84-85 .Any answers on it's make, model would be most welcome, btw it's just curiosity and I'm wondering if it was British made etc.any retired school music teachers out there.cheers.

All of our school stereo systems (on trolleys from the 'resource library') were provided by Goodmans who were a local company at the time.

I remember they were all Goodmans Module 90s. Some with built-in turntables and some with separate Connoisseur BD1 (or BD2) idler wheel turntables.

Speakers were all Goodmans RB35s IIRC. Possibly donated to the school. A lot of the kid's parents or other relatives would have worked in their factory.

The one I remember was like a long sideboard 2 built in speakers 1 each end and then the top used left up in the middle and there was a record player then underneath was a radio . I remember that you could stack the 45s records on the record player it sounded great . Maybe why I like hi fi for all this years

Thats almost any radiogram from the 1950s and 1960s. Anything to narrow it down a bit?

I would say 1960s to 1970s because the one I see at school was a Philips one which was pies or spelled Pye back then
