I purchased a Panasonic TH42 PZ800 earlier this year and have started to notice a buzzing recently. i have looked through the forums and found a number of people experiencing the same, the only thing is i have not managed to find out if anyone has been able to resolve the issue. To describe it best it is a buzzing noise coming from rear top and it comes and goes but it is just enough to be anoying. I have nother Panasonic plasma and this does not make any buzzing noises at all.

Hmmm, just found this on another site: Viewers with sensitive ears may pick up the slight whir of the cooling
fans, or power/brightness-related plasma buzzing, but assuming you sit
more than 6 feet away from the screen, these background noise should be
adequately drowned by normal TV volume
- don't know if it helps?

This phenomenon is more widespread than you would think.
Brightness related buzzing is usually a symptom of a defect/poorly designed power supply as the excess brightness puts a strain on the PSU.
This isn't restricted to flatscreens either, good old CRT sets can exhibit this as well.
Unfortunately, a lot of manufacturers these days use power stages that are "adequete" instead of a PSU specification that will perform comfortably.
Modern PSUs are under a great strain every time you turn the set on due to the high voltages needed to power the screen and some of the conventional componets inside such as capacitors will chemically deteriorate over time, contributing to eventual failure.

In saying that, a well designed set should of course give years of trouble free service, but you can be unlucky.
I am just replacing a power supply in a 60" NEC plasma at work that's just over a year old, a few weeks out of warranty unfortunately.
The powerboard is made by Sony and the video processing board is sourced from Pioneer.

Strange bedfellows indeed.
