Hi

I was wondering why there is never Any JBL Speakers reviewed or noted in the Margazine. Are they not available? Or you just think they are no good!

I just bought the CS Kit

- CS-T55

- CSs-C55

-CS-S10

http://europe.jbl.com/home/products/product_detail.aspx?prod=CST55&CheckProduct=Y (if you are not familiar)

And actaully the Wharferdale WH-20 for surround (which my interior designer insisted on for the "FIT":))

Coupled with a DENON AVR-2808SP

Sounds quite good to me.. hope I didnt miss something?

Thx

I'm not part of the magazine. But I've gotta say that all the JBL's I encounter (quite a lot actually) are of poor quality. They're big-box store fodder. Best buy, audiotronic, futureshop (Canadian Retailers not associated with good equipment) all proudly carry the astonishingly cheap JBL stuff. Back around when Huey Lewis was popular JBL made some good stuff. Fast forward to the present and the people who always wanted a hifi and finally have the space for one see JBL at best buy, think "my god, $250??? those are great speakers!!" and buy them feeling very chuffed.

Same goes for Polk, Boston Acoustic, Klipsch and Paradigm. All great once, now they just ride on their old reputations selling to people who haven't researched/auditioned speakers in twenty years.

They reviewed a pair of JBL standmounts and a pair of floorstanders years ago (Can't remember the model numbers, but they looked like large colourful inverted ice-cream cones). Both were reviewed favourably, but they were both in the higher price band (1000s, not 100s.) I guess if JBL don't manufacture the stuff, or send it for review, there's not a lot anyone can do about it.

Humm.. ok seems no one has reviewed these or any JBL set in some time then.. and are not easily available in UK..

So do we really know these are Cr*p or are we suffering by a perceived lack of snob factor?

Interested what the alternative would be for a sub GBP 1,000. 5.1 speaker set up?

The big Project Array JBLs are fabulous, really dynamic, good thump in the chest, but do subtlety very well. Fantastic with orchestral works.... The only downer is the cohesion betwixt the horn mid/tweeter and the dobbing great bass driver. The crossover is set in the female vocal range so the sound changes character as the fat lady sings...

Just to add, I've got the JBL Monitor L890 floorstanders. For $800 shipped, quite a deal, and have been very happy with them.
