Easy question I hope! I need a new HDMI cable as my current cable connecting my TV to my receiver decided to die! Done a bit of research and I've decided I want the Chord Supershield. Thing is, the shop I'm looking to buy it has a 1.3b spec lead and the reviews I've been reading are about the 1.4 spec.

I was just wondering if you guys could tell me the difference? I spoke to the guy in the shop earlier who said the 1.3b is 3D ready [although I haven't got a 3D TV at the mo, who knows in a year or so?], is this true? The other feature I liked was ARC, but as my Onkyo receiver is a couple of years old now, it's not compatible anyway.

Cheers for your help guys.

1.4 enables a dig. audio return signal to be send over the HDMI cable e.g. from your tv back to your receiver. SWith 1.3 you would need a seperate dig. interconnect.

About 3D on a 1.3b cable I do not know. Have heard rumours it is possible. Should not be to hard to test in an AV shop.

But as my receiver is a couple of years old now [sorry can't remember what Onkyo it is right now!] the audio return isn't relevant right, as my Onkyo hasn't got this feature???

1.3 is indeed 3D compatable, infact the sony 3d demonstration at manchester was using a chord 1.3 cable that was approx 4 years old according to Eric Kindon of sony fame.

As long as your cable is an half decent one it should be fine, that said i`ve just had 4 x 1.4 HDMI`s delivered this morning but i`m certainly going to try my existing cables from reciever to pj first as its a right pain to pull a new one in

as far as I'm aware the is no difference with the chord cables at all!

the only physical difference for HDMI 1.4 was that the final pin on the connectors is now used however the chord guy at the show said there's has been connected for ages anyway so it makes no difference to there manufacturing as there 1.4 cable is the same as 1.3 it's just the fact they've been re-tested.

hope this helps if in doubt send a message to the guys at chord from there website.

Cheers guys :)

I've dropped a quick email to Chord to get the full spec, just waiting to hear back now - though by the sounds of it I'm good to get the 1.3b.

As long as the HDMI cable is high speed certified (which the Chord Active HDMI is, up to I believe 5m), it can support 3D and 4K.
