New TV

Currently have a middle of the road 55inch F series Samsung which i'm looking to upgrade - still happy with 55inch flat screen and not bothered about sound as I use receiver but out of touch with what's best at around £1000 give or take a couple of hundred.

Any suggestions would be appreicated!

If you cant wait you probably couldn't go far wrong with a Samsung 55JU7000, £1079 at crampton and moore. Get john lewis to price match.

It will be a cracking TV but you may want to wait to see what 2016 HDR models start selling for. If you wait till end of Feb ish the 2015 models should still be available and you will start seeing prices for 2016 models.

I've been thinking about getting one of these, and I had a look at one today in John Lewis, and it looked quite impressive.

If it's a big upgrade on your Samsung, I don't know, but it's worth considering if you're determined to buy a new tv.

My brother has the 55F6740, they are pretty much the same tv. Jumping up to a 7 series or equivelent will get you better contrast, but the 6 series Samsungs are otherwise pretty solid performers. I'd be tempted to sit tight and buy somthing HDR in a few months otherwise you will end up wanting another new tv in a year or two 🙂

I was waiting for the 55JS8500 to dip down another couple of hundred quid but alas my car got written off so not gonna happen this year...

I thiink I'm looking for better contrast, deeper blacks etc, not interested in Smart functions - just looking for the best picture I can get for £1000-1200....HDR sounds good though.

Would love OLED but don't think I could live with curved tv...and 55 inch is a minimum so will have to have go and see what looks good which is not always easy the way most shops have them set to saturation mode!

I wouldn't buy a 1080p oled as per Gels link. Only 4K moving forward either lcd or oled is the only way forward for a new TV. Try and wait until the summer and see what the new 2016 TVs look like.

Depends, if the OP wants flexibility of multiple 4K sources, or wants Atmos and DTS:X, then upgrading the receiver is a must.

I can't tell mine has a curve. On "Oled TVs viewing angles are the same. You really don't notice it.

Interesting Gel, I'll have to go and look at some - mine is currently on the wall just above fireplace. Don't know how well a curved tv would sit on wall.

i'd get a 4k tv, forget 1080p now. no matter if it's OLED or not, if you can get a 4k tv which does hdr fairly well it will look amazing and much better than 1080p on the OLED. assuming you would bother getting into the new format of course.

At 55-inches 4K is suppose to make no difference too. I would only buy a 65-inch 4K TV. This TV is a corker.

I'm seeing this more and more on here and also on AVForums, people saying that they just want the best possible picture and are not bothered about Smart functions. Alas, the television manufacturers are not (yet) listening.

I agree that you cannot consider a smaller television after being used to 55 inches, and replacing it with one the same size seems to me like a wasted effort. I think you should go to 65 inches, but you do need to find £400 more money. Id wait around a few more months, the OLED tvs are droping in price FAST!
