New TV treat for a new house

I'm moving house and didn't get custody of the TV. Quite pleased really as I can get a new one. I want a Sony (just like them) and my local shop tell me the current range is now ex-production. The guy was pointing at a 3D box, and (I think) was implying that all the new range are 3D. I could still get one of the old models (40NX803) if I am quick, so my debate is whether to 3D or not.

I'm not one for changing boxes every couple of years - my purchases are well looked after and are intended to last a good long while until they break. I do want 200Hz refresh to help with the sports viewing that will be coming my way with my new found freedom. Monlith/nonmonolith - not fussed. Monolith looks great but the edge is bigger than nonmonolith.

So my point of wondering is, is it worth buying 3D. I don't subscribe to Sky in any form, but the implication was that 3D broadcasting will be common in 2-3 years. Therefore, do I "future-proof" myself, and worry about it again in e.g. 10 years time. Or shall I just go for the 2D NX803 while-stocks-last? Or is there something else in the new range that will really beat the socks off the current/ex models?

I know this is a bit like predicting the lottery numbers for the weekend, but as a non-techie ordinary guy in the street, I'm a bit confused. I'd welcome your thoughts.

Thanks.

I suspect that this is a question we'll be asked increasingly frequently. If you want to futureproof yourself, and if you think you may upgrade to Sky/Blu-ray 3D in the future, then it would make sense to go for a 3D set. But is it essential? No, not IMHO.
