Hello everyone!

I've decided that I need (want!) to buy a new TV system for myself at christmas. In total, I can spend around £1500 on DVD player and the TV. As for home-cinema, those of you whom know me from the hi-fi forum know that I have an Arcam A32 and Wharfedale EVO2 30s so I want to stick with 2 channel so any DVD or Blu-ray player that is well suited to 2ch is great.

TV wise, I doesn't need to be anything special, but a 42" is most likely best.

Also (not included in this price) I need a AV stand, but it needs to be quite low as the TV will be placed under a window and I don't want it impeding on the fabulous view out onto our street(!) It needs to hold the DVD player, the amp & the Arcam CD73 player and yet be quite low. I think the Atacama Equinox AV (without the add on shelf) is perfect for this though.

As for DVD players, I am wondering whether to invest in an Arcam DV135 or just a similarly priced Blu-Ray player: the thing is, I don't think I will be buying that many blu-rays and it seems the quality of the DV135 will be better than that of the Blu-ray when playing standard DVDs!

If you could advise me on the above, I would be very greatful!

Many thanks!

As your not really into BluRay or PS3, you might as well save some money and just get a 720p TV, like a Panasonic 42PX80 or LG 42PG6000 (around £650). The Panny is best buy 42" on this site.

I think I might go for the Sony KDL40W4000 - but as for DVD players, I'm still stuck for a £350 Blu-Ray or the Arcam DVD135...would the standard DVD quality be significantly better on the Arcam and would the sound be significantly better as it is a dedicated 2ch player?

Any of the current Panasonics would be a good choice with something like the BD50, also the Sony is a class leader in the 40inch Lcds. Next months mag sees the new Toshiba 500 dvd player which is supposed to be the next gen in dvd upscaling to near hd quality at £120 pounds and thats up against some recent bluray players to compare the upscaling of sd dvd interesting. At that price if its good may well be worth a purchase alongside a bluray player best of both worlds thats what im waiting for as blurays are expensive and only buy the releases which boast hd sound. As for the Arcam cant comment really has ive never seen it but it got good reviews when relesed and has seen a price drop so may be worth considering, i have to leave that for some one else to comment.
