New TV required

Hello peeps

Cut a long story short, our 32" LG has been playing up over the last couple of weeks. The TV has a 'reminder' for any programmes, and the TV switches over at the that given time. Over recent weeks its been automatically switching to 'Quest' channel on Freeview at 3.50pm everyday. Phoned LG and they've told me to clear the memory but it still switches over by itself at 1550 everday -- and there's nothing on the memory. Both LG and I are puzzled and they've asked me to send it back.

To save any faff I'm considering a replacement, but no idea except for the Sonys and Samsung. The ma-in-law, however, has a Phillips 32" which has a stunning picture and sound.

Budget: Probably no more than £500 for a 32" incher.

Cheers, PP.

Try a factory reset before going for a new TV. (You can also try re-tuning first to see if this solves the problem)

You will need to go and view a few TVs to see which suits as it will be a personal choice. (I personally find Samsung are a good bang for the buck)

Hope this helps

PP!

You'll be hard pushed to spend £500 on a 32" TV. Are you sure bigger will not fit? 40"-42" is a nice size (my 50" is even nicer, but may be a little large for you).

I spent £350 on a Panasonic txl32e6b which is terrific, but not sure if you can still get one.

The new Sonys are terrific though, and this looks like a great deal:

The Sonys do look good, and they come with impressive rewiews. Are they any better, picture and sound SQ-wise, than the Phillips?

Don't won't a screen any larger than 32", despite an imminent move to a larger house.

This sounds like a possible corruption of EPG/CRID data.

First thing I'd try is a rescan with the aerial disconnected from the TV (this will purge the data) then when complete reconnect the aerial and do another rescan.

If that doesn't work then do a full factory reset.

If Dave's solution doesn't work I'd highly recommend the Sony KDL42W706B. It's a great TV for the money and you'd shave £100 off your proposed budget.

If you're tight on space the 32" is £299.

My parents own one and after a rough and dirty calibration (using test patterns to set brightness and contrast and copying AVF's suggested white balance settings) it produces a fantastic picture (and I'm used to watching a professionally calibrated VT65).

Quick update:

Went to look at TVs Sunday afternoon for prices, sizes etc. and took a tape measure along. Sony and Samsung look smart and the Phillips looks robust. So I ended up purchasing a...

...sofa from Ikea. *mosking* Best laid plans, eh?

I'll try and reboot the LG first and see where the journey takes me.

Okay, thanks Daveh, I've completed your suggestions. Now have to wait until 3.50pm to see if it has done the trick.
