Hello,

I'm new to HI-Fi and im looking to buy myself a starter over ear headphones. I usually just listen to music and play a lot of games.

So I'm looking for a headphone that do great in both categories. I'm interested in some of the Senheisser models since they look sleek to me.

I would like to hear your recommendation.

Best regards,
Steve

Welcome to the forum. What sort of price range are you looking at? Sennheiser are certainly one of the top choices so you are on the right path.

Have a look at the AIAIAI TMA-2. The starter is £110, called the All-round Preset. It can then be upgraded as you see fit with better drivers, headbands, ear cushions etc. I use an AIAIAI myself and they do sound really good.

I would suggest stretch your budget and buy the Grado SR325e. I have the SR225e (lower model) and they are awesome for gaming.

You would need a good sound card or DAC to get the best from it. The Audioquest Dragonfly v1.2 is a great choice. I have the Meridian Explorer. If budget is rigid you should consider the SR225e. (There is also the AKG 550 to look at.) I am looking very closely at buying the SR325e myself. About the only thing stopping me is thinking about the GRado RS2e.

However plug the Grado SR325e into your hi-fi and you'll be in for a treat.

You could also google for best headphones then add your price range.

On average, "over ear" means closed and around ear. Thanks to marketing-speak for obfuscating this. So the Grado prob. would not qualify.
