I am new to the world of home cinema and looking in to buying an amp.The thing is its like a mine field out there. I have a Samsung 32in Full HD tv and a Sony BDP-S360 Blu-ray player and am looking for an amp. I have seen that some amps upscale AV signals like the Denon AVR-1910 or OnkyoTX-SR607. I would be linking my Sky+(not HD) and my Nintendo Wii to it and was wondering if they would upscale their picture and would it be any good or should I just stick to a standered AV amp like the Sony STR-DH800 or STR-DG820 and get just the surround sound.

You will never beat a HD original source, forget the Wii as a upscale as the graphics are too basic too start to worry about it (IMO),

For Sky unless you have HD, your best route would be to go Sky HD, you would need to spend many more pounds than your example AV amplifiers to beat a upscaled SD picture and sound, if that is even possible!

Its a bit like watching a Bluray vs a DVD, its all simple if the data is there in the first place without the need for "guessing" on how a processor/device could upscale it
